Annual Report 1997
Treasurer's Report for 1997
The audited Trustees' Report and Accounts of the Society at 31 December 1997 are attached.
This is the first year that these are presented in the format required by the Charity Commission, complying with the latest Charities Acts and according to their Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP).
The consolidated income and expenditure were £93,100 and £101,463 respectively, giving an overall deficit for the year of £8,363. The deficit was offset by revaluation of investments so that the fixed assets represent market value instead of cost (notes 4 & 5 on page xx). Investments held represent £100,595 market value at 31 December 1997. The net effect was a surplus of £4,361.
As well as remarks in The Society's Financial Position (page xx) the following notes on income and expenditure apply.
Income
On the SOFA, subscription income is £28,444 net of Health Physics and membership application charges. The net journal income is £3,279. Miscellaneous includes sale of CPD folder (£750), Certification Scheme (£430), NVQ papers and badges/ties.
Expenditure
From notes 6 & 7, printing and stationery larger items are Newsletters (£1,000), Rules ballot (£1,500), Annual Report (£1,000), scientific meeting programme costs (£2,500), prospectus (£850) and CPD printing. Increased postage costs relate to similar headings as for printing and stationery. Travelling expenses are down, partially due to expenses for scientific meetings being taken into scientific meeting expenditure and partially due to the variation in geographical location of those attending committee meetings. General expense is primarily room hire and a one off charge for a display stand (£680). BradPA closure was SRP paying off final BradPA costs. Administrative support is net less than 1996 since 1996 posted 13 monthly payments to TBA, whereas 1997 posted only 12. Council meetings are listed separately, as required by the Charity Commission's SORP.

SUBSCRIPTIONS
There will be no change in subscriptions for 1999, except that it has been realised that postage to EC members outside UK is not covered by normal postage rates in UK and postage to non-EC members is not covered by the £8 charge previously made, so there will be a charge of £5 for postage for EC members outside the UK and £20 for non-EC members. Subscriptions will therefore be as follows:
The subscriptions for 1998 will therefore be:
| Fellows | £39 per year | £19.50 (half year) |
| Members | £26 per year | £13 (half year) |
| Associate & Graduate Members | £19.50 per year | £9.75 (half year) |

| Student & Retired Members* | £13 per year | £6.50 (half year) |
| Affiliated Organisations | £195 per year | £97.50 (half year) |
* Retired status applies to members who are (a) over 60 years (b) retired from full-time employment and (c) members of the Society for a minimum of 10 years.
The Journal of Health Physics charges are dependent on the Health Physics Society. There is a charge of £5 postage for EC members outside UK and £20 postage for non-EC members.
