| SRP/IRPA RP Culture Improvement Workshop (Feedback) |
|
The workshop took place on 5 September, as planned, with Rick Hallard welcoming 11 people (including himself) - a mixture of Medical and Industry - to the workshop, he outlined the programme and expectations for the day as shown in the previously circulated Agenda and started a ‘round – the – table’ introductions. Roger Coates explained the background to the workshop from the IRPA RP SC Workstream perspective. The participants then discussed ‘What do we mean by a Good Safety Culture’; following this discussion it was agreed that the Workshop would focus on developing a good RP SC in the workplace involving the appropriate people. It was recognized that opening it up to educating the public generally was too great a task at this present time and the workplace was a good starting point, but recognizing that in the Medical area this could involve members of the public. Participants then divided into 2 groups to identify problems and barriers in the workplace to having a good RP SC. A feedback session too place just before lunch. After lunch participants dived into the 2 sector groups, Medical and Industry, and identified Key Issues and possible Headings for an Action Plan in developing a good RP SC within their respective sectors / organizations. Another feedback session took place after tea / coffee. Towards the end of the Workshop Rick summarized the days proceedings and various people undertook to progress specific actions identified from the Action Plan headings. It was also decided to write an abstract for a paper to go to IRPA13 by the 16th September 2011 deadline. Rick closed the workshop at 16:15 (only 15 minutes behind schedule – a major achievement considering the topic and people present!!) with thanks to all for attending and Roger Coates thanked Rick for organizing this useful Workshop. This Workshop is part of a wider initiative led by IRPA, more detail on the IRPA Initiative can be found on http://www.irpa.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=214&Itemid=181 Anyone requiring more information about how they can become involved in this important topic should contact Rick Hallard by email on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
