Radioactive Waste Adviser Approval Board
The Radioactive Waste Adviser Approval Board held its first meeting on 3 October and made the following key decisions:

·         Applications from Assessing Bodies open on 1 November 2011

·         Applications from nuclear sites for Corporate Arrangements will open in 2012, the date will be announced in due course.

·         Individuals who have grandfather rights will need to go through a full assessment of competence by an Assessing Body when, or before, their grandfather rights expire on 30 June 2016.

The next meeting of the Approval Board is planned for February 2012 and is likely to be held in London.  Invitations for industry members of the Approval Board have been sent out via the Nuclear Industry Liaison Group, the Scottish Non-nuclear Liaison Group and the Small Users Liaison Group and we hope to have our industry members on the Approval Board by 1 December 2011.

Further information on the RWA Approval Board including notes from the meeting can be found on the RWA website (http://www.sepa.org.uk/radioactive_substances/radioactive_waste_advisers/approval_board.aspx )
