Educational Support Scheme

Application form and guidance (Microsoft Word 70KB)

Explanatory Guidance

Awards Committee is appointed by SRP Council to arrange and manage support, particularly financial and advisory, for you to develop your competence within the radiological protection field or an allied subject.  This is particularly appropriate in the area of continuing education.

What is continuing education?
It is participating in and experiencing those opportunities which will enhance your capabilities and help you to realise your full potential as a professional.  The emphasis is on developing a wide range of knowledge, experience and skills which are not normally acquired during initial training.

A wide range of activities can be supported under this scheme, the following list is illustrative rather than exhaustive;

  • Attendance at UK meetings, organised by both SRP and other organisations, provided they are radiation protection centred (ionising and non-ionising radiations).  Protection could relate to either occupational or environmental aspects and it would be appropriate to develop competence in associated topics such as radiochemistry and environmental impact assessment.
  • Attendance at international meetings, such as those organised by IRPA or other overseas meetings relevant to radiation protection.
  • Participation in refresher courses, to keep up to date in the field.
  • Presentation of papers, to help develop communication skills and techniques.
  • Attachments/secondments, to broaden knowledge and learn new skills.
The SRP recognises that the costs of such activities cannot always be met from other sources and has therefore made some funds available to support suitable applicants.  These funds may be used for fees, subsistence, provision of child care and the like, as appropriate.  However, all normal means of funding should have been explored before SRP funding is considered.  In particular, unless there are special circumstances, the SRP would expect employers to fund the majority of such activities.

If you are interested and eligible then please complete the application form. As funds are limited, each case will be judged on its merits and support will be limited to one activity per individual per year.
