The 21st International L H Gray Conference
The Radiobiology / Radiation Protection Interface

4 - 6 June 2008, Edinburgh
There have been significant developments in the field of radiobiology in the last decade. However, those practising in radiation protection and advising others on the hazards are not necessarily aware of the evolution in understanding that is taking place. Should we be reappraising our approach to radiation protection?

The aim of this conference is to bring together scientists undertaking research in radiobiology with physicists practising in radiation protection, present the current understanding of radiation risks, and explore the implications for radiation applications in medicine and in the community.

Leading experts from around the world have been invited to contribute. Sessions on radiobiology and epidemiology, lead into consideration of the accuracy and degree of confidence we can have in radiation risk assessments. The final day of the conference considers how the development in knowledge should influence medical uses of radiation, and the public health threats from use of radioactive materials by terrorist groups. The final lecture is an overview of the place of quantitative risk assessment.

RPA Update 2008 IPEM site
19 June 2008, Manchester
Co-sponsored by SRP and IPEM.
The RPA Update will look at the death of a patient treated with iodine seeds, DH contingency plans and the approach adopted by the Health Care Commission to deal with IR(ME)R reported incidents. We will also look at ICRP recommendations, COMARE 12 report and proposed IAEA, EC and BSS directives. Booking deadline: 6 June 2008

Effects & Management of Electromagnetic Fields in the Hospital - interference & compatability IPEM site
8 July 2008, York
Co-sponsored by SRP and IPEM.
There are numerous sources of EMFs within the hospital environment. With the current trend of introducing wireless technologies, often in an uncontrolled and ad-hoc manner, what are the hidden dangers and problems that we face? The aim of this meeting is to identify sources of EMFs, look at the interoperability of these sources, and factors that we need to consider for successful management of the EM environment. Call for Papers deadline: 7 March 2008

Emergency Response - planning and reality
18 November 2008, Totnes, Devon
