Social Participants
The Programme for Social Participants consists of the evening functions on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday together with a number of optional items during the scientific sessions and on the Wednesday afternoon.

Monday
(afternoon) Visit to Rufford Old Hall
One of the finest 16th Century buildings in Lancashire renowned for its hammer beam roof and massive moveable screen in the Great Hall. It houses an excellent collection of tapestries, arms, armour and Tudor and Jacobean furniture.
(evening) *Civic Reception - Southport Arts Centre, Lord Street
Tuesday
(daytime) Visit to Granada Studios, Manchester
A fantasy world of TV and film. The day will include a unique backstage tour, spectacular live shows and a laser enhanced 3D show. See where Coronation Street is filmed and take a seat in the House of Lords!
(evening) *Symposium Banquet - St George's Hall, Liverpool
The Hall is one of the World’s greatest 19th Century buildings. HG Wells and Charles Dickens are among the many luminaries to have spoken there and it is one of Prince Charles’ favourite buildings.
Wednesday
(afternoon) *Visit to Albert Docks, Liverpool
This is one of Britain’s most popular heritage attractions. Located at the heart of Liverpool’s historic waterfront, the complex is a fascinating mix of dozens of speciality shops, restaurants, bars and cafes, boat trips and world-class visitor attractions including the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Tate Gallery, The Beatles Story and Animation World.
Thursday
(daytime) Visit to the Lake District
This trip will visit the heart of one of the UK’s prime areas of natural beauty; the day will include a visit to a museum on Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth as well as the opportunity for a boat trip - weather permitting!
(evening) *Lancastrian Evening - Southport Arts Centre, Lord Street
