This webinar provides a whistlestop tour of the fundamentals of disposal safety and environmental safety cases (ESCs).  Available to SRP members only. Running time: 1 hour.  Presentation slides.
 
Topics include:
- What ESCs are, and where they fit in the regulatory and legal context;
- An overview of the ESC for the LLWR disposal system;
- Challenges associated with demonstrating environmental safety of an operating disposal site;
- The radiological protection principles that apply when considering impacts on future generations
 
Presenter - Sam Stead, Nuclear Waste Services
Sam is Nuclear Waste Services’ Environmental Safety Case Lead for the Low Level Waste Repository (LLWR). He is responsible for managing and developing the Environmental Safety Case for the LLWR site.  He leads a dedicated team of disposal safety experts tasked with ensuring disposals are safe, both for the public and wider environment. The team also define the optimised disposal concept for the site, setting waste acceptance criteria and define radiological capacities. A chartered physicist and member of the SRP with over 10 years’ experience in the nuclear industry, Sam has a particular interest in the radiological protection principles associated with waste disposal and how they are applied to future generations.
